     CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PROCEDURE

All types of implants and grafts until now available for the correction of depressions and body defects, have shown difficulties in handling, complications and deficiencies in long term results. The search for the ideal material has reached a modern stage with the use of META<>CRILL®, which is an injectable product (polymethylmetacrylate in form of micro spheres suspended in a colloid solution), which has been shown to be safe, inexpensive, with permanent results during the observation time, which, in Brazil, has extended for 8 years, being used by over 2000 doctors in Brazil and abroad, with relatively few complications, if the utilization protocol is strictly observed.
The specialized literature shows results of histological studies after the implant of many substances. From all of those, the one showing the most acceptable results, with the least tissue reaction, was the PMMA micro spheres, being both inert and biocompatible.

Different diameters of the micro spheres have been tested. The 40 micron spheres have been proven as the ideal size, because they cannot be phagocytized due to the large size, remaining therefore in the site where they have been placed.
The procedure is done in the office, in a procedure room, with proper installations.

The patient remains sitting position or on the back.

The antisepsis of the area is done with common antiseptics. Sterile gloves and one-time-use syringes and needles are used.
The implant is done with syringe or pistol, with needles or sharp canolas. In regions where there are blood vessels of large diameter, as nasolabial sulcus, it is better to do the implant with canolas, to allow intravascular penetration.

The canolas used are sharp, lateral hole and 1 mm diameter.

The anesthesia is optional, local or regional. The anesthetics volume must not interfere with the correction.

The implant is done slowly, in the subcutaneous layer always. The implant form is in cylinders, parallel, fan like or criss-crossed, never in for of pearls or spheres.

The correction is under the operator vision, hypercorrections being forbidden.

After the implant, rest in the implant área and wet iced compress by 15 min every 3 hours. The analgesics are optional.
In some patients we can see edema of greater grade, when we can prescribe systemic corticoids.

After 4 weeks, if necessary, some complimentary implant is made.

The edema generally lasts for 3/5 days. Some ecchymosis could be present, by the needle trauma and disappears spontaneously.
